Apresentam-se também sugestões de conservação e valorização do mesmo; ABSTRACT: The small theatre in Lisbon in the transition of the XIX –XXth century. Suggestions for the renewal of the “Belém Clube”. The theatre of the “Belém Clube” is one of the few surviving examples of a type of building that proliferated in the nineteenth century Lisbon, which had a major social impact, as it was directly related with the passion for theatre that prevailed at the time. It is a neighbourhood theatre that entered in a state of decay, due to its small size, to its popular standing, to the fact that it is less well known and also to the lack of funding that plagued the association that is its tenant for a long time. Up to this day it has not been attributed its long due standing as an architectural symbol of its time. The theatre still has most of its original structure in place and most architectural elements are intact. Examples of this are the stage area, as well as the stage machinery. The present investigation seeks to contribute towards the correct evaluation of this building as an historical landmark, a special example of a small theatre with most of the workings of a large theatre. Suggestions for the renewal and improvement of the theatre are also presented.
