Compreender a abstinência e o consumo de álcool entre escolares dos ensinos básico e secundário

Abstract

O Global Status Report on Alcohol and Health (2011) apresenta como objetivo a redução do uso nocivo do álcool. Portugal é, em 2012, o 2.º país do Mundo com maior nível de consumo de álcool per capita. Este fenómeno observa-se, também, de forma preocupante, entre faixas etárias precoces. O Alentejo constitui a região que regista maiores consumos entre os escolares. Este estudo procurou perceber o papel das representações dos alunos do 8.º, 10.º e 12.º anos acerca dos efeitos do álcool, e das suas atitudes face à abstinência e ao consumo. Desenvolveu-se um estudo multicasos, com recurso a 30 entrevistas numa escola do Alentejo. Os resultados apontam que as consequências da ingestão alcoólica tendem a contribuir para o consumo e para o hábito de abstinência. Associadas à influência do grupo de pertença, o incumprimento do legislado e o deficitário controlo pelas entidades competentes, resultam na experimentação e na manutenção do hábito de consumo; #### UNDERSTAND THE ABSTINENCE AND ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AMONG STUDENTS OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ABSTRACT: The Global status report on alcohol and health, published in 2011, aimed at reducing the levels of harmful use of alcohol. In 2012 Portugal was considered the second country in the world with the highest level of alcohol consumption per capita. Alarmingly, this phenomenon was found to start from early ages. The Alentejo was the region that registered the highest rate of alcohol intake among schoolchildren. This study sought to understand the role of students' representations of 8th, 10th and 12th grade about the effects of alcohol, and their attitudes towards abstinence vs. consumption. We developed a multicase study, interviewing 30 subjects in a school of Alentejo. The results indicate that the consequences of alcohol consumption tend to contribute to that consumption and the habit of abstinence. Factors such as the influence of group membership, breaches on legislation and the poor control by the competent authorities, lead to an increase in experimenting and continuous intake of such substances.
