Termas Vale dos Cucos. Da viagem ao lugar

Abstract

A linha ferroviária do Oeste constituiu um poderoso elemento estruturador de uma vasta região. Funcionando regularmente a partir de 1880, foi outrora eixo de um mercado regional dinâmico, tecendo novas articulações económicas, culturais e turísticas. O caminho-de-ferro assume-se também como um elemento histórico relevante, para uma região expectável em seu redor. O objetivo é conseguir promover uma relação entre o complexo termal dos Cucos e o restante tecido urbano e rural, procurando criar e conjugar neste território um mosaico cultural pontuado por grandes marcos, os termais, os patrimoniais, os sociais e os culturais. Partindo de uma base prática operativa, relativa à Paisagem e Património Termal ainda hoje existente, mas que atualmente permanece devoluto, pretende-se conceber uma base de estudo de relações entre a arquitetura (termas) e a infraestrutura (ferrovia). Com base nesta investigação procura-se estabelecer uma hipotética relação da evolução morfológica do complexo termal dos Cucos (Torres Vedras 1893 - 1998), com o desenvolvimento da linha de caminho-de-ferro, oriunda de Lisboa, que liga a cidade de Torres Vedras às restantes cidades termais, procurando assim contribuir para uma enunciação de uma possível interpretação crítica e criação arquitetónica. Esta metodologia de análise, interpretação e intervenção proposta, procura revitalizar e integrar o atual edifício num conjunto edificado, que possa revitalizar e proporcionar novos ambientes propícios à promoção da saúde, lazer e bem-estar comum, de uma cidade, de uma paisagem, de um território expectante; ABSTRACT: The Portuguese Western railroad line was a powerful structuring element for a vast region. Operating regularly since 1880, it was once the axis of a dynamic regional market, weaving new economic, cultural and tourist connections. Today, she railroad still stands as a relevant historical element, for an expecting region surrounding it. The objective is to be able to promote a relationship between the Cucos thermal facilities and the rest of the urban and rural fabric, seeking to create and combine in this territory a cultural mosaic punctuated by major landmarks, thermals baths, historic heritage, social and cultural. Starting from a practical operational base, related to the Landscape and Thermal Heritage that still standing today, but which currently remains vacant, it is intend to conceive a basis for studying the relationship between architecture (thermal baths) and infrastructure (railroad). Based on this investigation, an attempt is made to establish a hypothetical relationship between the morphological evolution of the Cucos thermal baths (Torres Vedras 1893 - 1998), with the development of the railroad line from Lisbon, which links the city of Torres Vedras to the remaining thermal cities, thus seeking to contribute to the enunciation of a possible critical interpretation and architectural creation. This analysis methodology, interpretation and proposed intervention, seeks to revitalize and integrate the current building within a facilities compound, which can revitalize and provide new environments leading to the promotion of health, leisure and common well-being, of a city, of a landscape, of an expectant territory.
