Abstract: If psychology is the science that studies human behavior, then tourism can also be perceived as a psychological phenomenon, where psychology has as object of study the nature of the tourist motivations, their attitudes, their experiences, their satisfaction or dissatisfaction, their personality and the mental image he makes of the destiny. The present paper analyzes the importance of the discipline 'Psychology of Tourism' in the structure of the curricular plans in the superior courses of tourism and / or its related areas (hotel, ecotourism, animation, tourist management, etc.) in public and private higher education institutions in Portugal. The study is exploratory and had as main focus the tourism courses that offer the discipline 'Psychology of Tourism’ as an obligatory subject in the curriculum.
