O Real Convento de Nossa Senhora da Esperança de Vila Viçosa : as pinturas murais: história, conservação e restauro

Abstract

O presente trabalho aborda as pinturas murais do Convento da Esperança de Vila Viçosa, cujo objectivo do tema, para além de estudar o Convento, aborda também a investigação iconográfica, estética e artística das diversas cenas representadas no seu interior na maioria usando frequentemente a técnica do fresco, com cenas dos Evangelhos, da Vida de Cristo, representações de santos e santas, apocalipse, entre outras decorações. Obra de mérito artístico, entre as melhores que subsistem em templos portugueses do século XVII, sob mecenato ducal. Neste sentido torna-se fundamental desenvolver a temática da conservação e restauro em pintura mural, como meio de prevenir, proteger e revitalizar um dos grandes tesouros artísticos que ainda tenta subsistir, localizado em pleno berço Alentejano. O objectivo final deste tema tem por base a valorização deste bem ao nível histórico e artístico, completamente esquecido, com pinturas marcadas pela degradação proveniente da falta de salvaguarda e desconhecimento. ABSTRACT; This study addresses the murals of the Convento da Esperança of Vila Viçosa. The goal of the subject, in addition of studying the Convent, also addresses its iconographic, aesthetic and artistic various scenes represented inside, most often using the fresco technique, with scenes from the Gospels, Life of Christ, representations of saints or the apocalypse, among other decorations. Work of artistic merit, which remains among the best in Portuguese temples of the seventeenth century, under ducal patronage. Therefore it is essential to develop the theme of conservation and restoration of mural painting as a means to prevent, protect and revitalize one of the great surviving art treasures, located in Alentejo. The ultimate main goal of this theme is based on the refurbishment of the convent in its historical and artistic concept, completely forgotten, with paintings that have bean deteriorating due to lack of safeguard and ignorance.
