Estudo exploratório sobre a gravidez precoce em São Tomé e Príncipe, o caso de uma escola de Bom Bom

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi de índole qualitativa, procurando compreender o significado e o contexto da experiência de gravidez na adolescência assim como o seu impacto no meio escolar, especialmente os seus efeitos no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Na recolha de dados, utilizaram-se entrevista semiestruturadas, visando obter através dos dados recolhidos uma visão dinâmica da construção dos significados que regulam as interações e consequentemente o desenvolvimento sócio-emocional das adolescentes nas escolas. Os resultados e a comparação cruzada das perceções e narrativas permitiram obter consonâncias e dissonâncias entre os grupos envolvidos. As adolescentes referem-se à gravidez como não planificada, sendo o momento mais negativo e marcante das suas biografias, com sentimentos de arrependimento, vergonha, e isolamento social. Esta avaliação negativa é, em grande parte, partilhada por elas e pelos professores, o que contribui para uma estigmatização das adolescentes, embora a responsabilidade seja atribuída sobretudo aos pais pela sua permissividade e ausência educativa. Os professores responsabilizam a Escola, justificando indiretamente a não implementação de estratégias pedagógicas específicas na área da educação sexual e da educação compensatória e, portanto, um declínio no rendimento escolar e na motivação para o estudo. No entanto, todas as adolescentes têm perspetivas ambiciosas quanto à sua carreira futura, todas referiram querer prosseguir os estudos para o nível superior, em nítido contraste com as baixas expectativas dos professores que revelam um grande ceticismo relativamente ao futuro das mesmas; ABSTRACT: Exploratory research on teenage pregnancy in São Tomé and Príncipe, the case of a school of Bom Bom The aim of this work has a qualitative nature, because it seeks to understand the meaning of pregnancy in the context of the teenage experience as well as its impact on the school environment, especially in its effects on the teaching-learning process. The data collection was made based on the semi-structured interview to provide a dynamic vision of the meanings construction that regulate the interactions and, consequently, the socio-emotional development of adolescents in schools. The results and the cross comparison of the perceptions and narratives led to consonances and dissonances be-tween the three groups involved. Teenagers characterize the pregnancy as unplanned and consequently, the most negative and striking moment in their biographies, with feelings of regret, shame, and social isolation. This negative judgment is, to a large extent, shared by parents and teachers, which contributes to a stigmatization of adolescents, although the responsibility is mainly attributed to parents for their permissiveness and educational absence. Teachers hold the school responsible for the absent of a specific pedagogical strategies plan in the area of sex education and a compensatory education plan, thus, a decline in school performance and motivation for study. However, all adolescents have ambitious prospects for their future career, and all of them showed interest to continue their studies to higher education. The parents recognize and reinforce this ambition in sharp contrast to the low expectations of teachers who reveal great skepticism about the future.
