Abstract: | - Xenobiotic biotransformation capacity and oxidative stress markers of gills transformers captured in Vouga river basin were higher than those detected along the salinity gradient in transformers of Lima basin. Environmental factors of each basin and molecular mechanisms of memory of the Sea lamprey transformers may be in the origin of this response. The Lima river basin can thus be considered the most pristine basin. Fails in the mechanisms of xenobiotic biotransformation metabolism stress response of gills Sea lamprey from Vouga basin, may seriously compromise the recruitment of juveniles of this ancestral species, especially in prolonged summer times, which are increasing in Portugal. |
