Sé de Silves: contributos para uma proposta de recuperação e valorização arquitectónica

Abstract

A Sé de Silves foi classificada como Monumento Nacional em 1922. Entre os anos de 1931 e 1955 sofreu diversas obras de restauro levadas a efeito pela DGEMN. Os monumentos em “grés” deste tipo não são muito comuns, sendo a Sé um dos mais significativos exemplos do nosso país. Justifica-se a escolha deste tema pela qualidade arquitectónica e construtiva do edifício e o estado de degradação que se presencia, para além da ausência de um estudo monográfico que abarque uma leitura global dos diferentes aspectos que se prendem com o edifício primitivo. O objetivo principal da investigação visa o diagnóstico sobre o seu estado de conservação, apresentação de soluções de intervenção para a resolução de anomalias estruturais e de patologias dos materiais. Procurámos definir uma metodologia de intervenção conjuntamente com uma proposta de recuperação e conservação do monumento, através da análise dos diversos componentes que englobam o estudo do monumento. Em termos metodológicos pretendeu-se o reconhecimento e descrição do objecto através do levantamento arquitectónico (material gráfico) e fotográfico; análise crítica da documentação técnica existente no Arquivo da DGEMN, nomeadamente dos processos de obras, documentação fotográfica e administrativa, em diálogo constante com o monumento em causa; interpretação das correntes de restauro em pormenor; recensão crítica da bibliografia existente sobre o monumento; levantamento sistemático das características e processos construtivas; determinação do quadro patológico geral do edifício através do levantamento das patologias e anomalias estruturais. RESUME: Silve’s cathedral is a National Monument since 1922. Between 1931 and 1955 it has suffered several restauration repairs executed by DGEMN. Monuments in “grés” are not very usual and this cathedral is one of the most significant examples in Portugal. Therefore, the choice of this theme is totally justified, not only because of the architectonic and constructive quality of the building but also because of the state of degradation we observe; besides, there isn’t any monographical study that includes a global reading of the different aspects within the primitive building. The main aim of the investigation aspires the diagnostic of its state of conservation, the presentation of interventive solutions in order to solve structural anomalies and material pathologies. We wanted to define a methodology of intervention in conjunction with a proposal of recuperation and conservation of the monument by the analysis of the several components that concern the study of the monument. In methodologic terms we aim the recognition and the description of the object through the architectonic (graphic material) and photographic raising: critical analysis of the technical documentation existing on the DGEMN Archive, namely the repairing processes and photographic and administrative documentations, on a constant dialog with the monument; Interpretation of the chains of restauration in detail; critical recension of the existing bibliography about the monument; systematic raising of the constructive characteristics and processes; determination of the global pathological state of the building by raising structural pathologies and anomalies.
