The Masks of Human Wickedness in Ingmar Bergman films – a key to understand a conceptual net of filmic and philosophical approach
The key question to my analysis of Ingmar Bergman's cinematography highlights the topic of wickedness. I worked on his films and texts. I started by doing a survey of the most striking religious e literary influences, which are directly associated to the construction of the notion of wickedness. When I associated this with the philosophical concept of moral evil, it split itself gradually from the concept, and it got its proper meaning. My reflexion compromises philosophers and concepts that are part of Existentialism. This foray into the philosophical universe has previously established a correlation with the context of philosophy in the cinema, exploiting, thus, problems that came up from the reflexion around Bergman's filmography. Finally, I tried to isolate and account for the different configurations of wickedness – “masks” –, showing the capability of the cinema to state concepts and, thus, to be an occasion of thought. |
