Abstract: | The aim of this study was to define experimental conditions to optimize the production of protein-bound polysaccharides by C. versicolor. Most of the reported studies referred polysaccharides isolated from mycelium, however a few studies on exopolysaccharides from C. versicolor have been reported (Kim et al. 2002; Tavares et al. 2005). In fact, the polysaccharides represent the major constituent that establishes the rigidity and morphological properties of the fungal cell wall and, depending on the culture conditions, they can be excreted to the medium. In this work, endo and exo protein bound polysaccharides, produced by C. versicolor will be investigated. In order to evaluate and to optimize the production of these compounds we performed submerse cultures with four different carbon sources: glucose, maltose, sucrose and manitol. Additionally, aiming for a clean process and to reduce the medium cost, two kinds of agro-industrial residues were used: tomato pomace and beet wastes. |
