O impacto da doença crónica na saúde mental do adulto - Contributo do enfermeiro especialista

Abstract

O presente estudo analisa o impacto da doença crónica na saúde mental, evidenciando o papel do enfermeiro especialista em enfermagem de saúde mental e psiquiátrica no acompanhamento da pessoa e da sua família. Trata-se de uma investigação qualitativa, de natureza descritivo-exploratória, conduzida com indivíduos portadores de doença crónica acompanhados em contexto de cuidados de saúde. A recolha de dados foi efetuada através de entrevistas semiestruturadas, que foram revalidadas e avaliadas pelos orientadores. Os resultados indicam que a vivência da doença crónica é associada a sofrimento emocional, ansiedade, depressão, alterações identitárias e perda de projetos de vida, surgindo ainda sentimentos de dependência e estigma social. Destaca-se a relevância da relação terapêutica, da escuta ativa e da intervenção psicoeducativa do enfermeiro especialista na promoção de estratégias de coping, no fortalecimento da autoestima e na capacitação da pessoa para gerir a doença, promovendo adaptação, bem-estar e qualidade de vida; - THE IMPACT OF CHRONIC ILLNESS ON ADULT MENTAL HEALTH - A CONTRIBUTION FROM THE SPECIALIST NURSE ABSTRACT: This study analyzes the impact of chronic illness on mental health, highlighting the role of the specialist nurse in mental health and psychiatric nursing in supporting the individual and their family. It is a qualitative, descriptive-exploratory study conducted with individuals with chronic illness receiving care in a healthcare setting. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, which were validated and evaluated by supervisors. The results indicate that experiencing chronic illness is associated with emotional distress, anxiety, depression, identity changes, and loss of life goals, also leading to feelings of dependency and social stigma. The study emphasizes the relevance of the therapeutic relationship, active listening, and the psychoeducational intervention of the specialist nurse in promoting coping strategies, strengthening self-esteem, and empowering the individual to manage the illness, promoting adaptation, well-being, and quality of life.
