Abstract: The article, traces the photographic journey of Antonio Beato nearly since the encounter with James Robertson in Constantinople, illustrating the travels they did also with Felice Beato from the capital of the Ottoman Empire to Greece, Malta, the Holy Land and Cairo, between 1854 and 1857. Although brief, this was a decisive period, during which Antonio and Felice developed and refined their photographic techniques, deciding to pursue a career similar to those of Félix Bonfils, Pascal Sebah or the Zangaky brothers.
