Os impactos da Imigração na educação: os desafios dos estudantes estrangeiros da universidade de Évora

Abstract

Recentemente, tem havido um aumento do número de alunos provenientes dos PALOP a frequentar universidades em Portugal. A elevação pode ser explicada por diversos motivos, como ligações históricas, culturais e linguísticas, a qualidade do ensino do português e as oportunidades de progresso na carreira. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo conhecer o impacto que a imigração tem na educação dos alunos do PALOP na Universidade de Évora e caracterizar as dificuldades que eles enfrentam. Na investigação é realizado um estudo de caso descritivo e interpretativo, com o recurso a uma abordagem quantitativa. A recolha de dados é feita por inquérito por questionário, revisão bibliográfica e análise documental. Os resultados revelam que os alunos PALOP enfrentam dificuldades significativas em Portugal. Essas dificuldades podem ser de natureza acadêmica, financeira, social e emocional. No estudo realizado verificou-se que os alunos PALOP da UÉ, 68% dos estudantes concordaram que o aumento de bolsas de estudos poderá evitar ou reduzir a desistência (absentismo) dos alunos, principalmente, dos alunos com problemas financeiros. Sendo assim, estudantes provenientes dos PALOP em Portugal frequentemente necessitam de suporte extra para ultrapassar as dificuldades que encontram durante a sua permanência no país. No trabalho foram listados diversos recursos para facilitar a integração e a vivência desses alunos em Portugal. Estes suportes são fundamentais para assegurar que a integração completa dos alunos, tanto a nível académico, psicológico como social, e para beneficiarem ao máximo da sua experiência de estudo em Portugal; - The impacts of immigration on education: the challenges faced by foreign students at the University of Évora

Abstract: Recently, there has been an increase in the number of students from PALOP countries attending universities in Portugal. This increase can be explained by several reasons, such as historical, cultural and linguistic connections, the quality of Portuguese language teaching and opportunities for career advancement. The present study aims to understand the impact that immigration has on the education of PALOP students at the University of Évora and to characterize the difficulties they face. The research is a descriptive and interpretative case study, using a quantitative approach. Data collection is done through a questionnaire survey, bibliographic review and document analysis. The results reveal that PALOP students face significant difficulties in Portugal. These difficulties can be academic, financial, social and emotional in nature. The study found that among PALOP students at UÉ, 68% of students agreed that increasing scholarships could prevent or reduce student dropout (absenteeism), especially those with financial problems. Therefore, students from PALOP countries in Portugal often need extra support to overcome the difficulties they encounter during their stay in the country. The paper lists several resources to facilitate the integration and experience of these students in Portugal. These supports are essential to ensure the complete integration of students, both academically, psychologically and socially, and to benefit to the maximum from their study experience in Portugal.
