As pousadas em Portugal: as intervenções nos edifícios históricos à luz das cartas e recomendações internacionais

Abstract

Esta dissertação tem como objetivo compreender como as normas e cartas internacionais foram tidas em consideração nas intervenções de adaptação de monumentos e sítios classificados como de elevado valor patrimonial, cultural e arquitetónico nas Pousadas de Portugal, na segunda metade do século XX, através da análise de um conjunto selecionado de casos de estudo O desenvolvimento do trabalho procura perceber os processos históricos que levaram à implementação das Pousadas em Portugal, e a evolução destas intervenções através dos tempos, desde meados do século XX até aos nossos dias. Seguidamente, e após uma seleção dos casos de estudo conforme a sua importância, no que diz respeito ao modo de intervir no património, foi realizada para cada um dos exemplos, uma análise histórica do edifício, uma descrição da abordagem da intervenção defendida pelo arquiteto e uma breve descrição do edifício já adaptado à da sua nova função. Após a análise de casos de estudo selecionados, estando estruturado segundo uma ordem cronológica dos projetos das intervenções, pretende-se estabelecer relações entre as pousadas estudadas clarificando o tipo de abordagem ao património, os distintos tipos de intervenções, as influências que umas exercem noutras e os métodos que as distinguem. Nos casos das Pousadas a intervenção decorre em edifícios e conjuntos classificados, sendo considerados de elevado valor patrimonial, cultural e arquitetónico, envolvendo edifícios históricos, pelo que se procura valorizar todos os significados intrínsecos desse património, respeitar o edifício existente nas suas várias características físicas, ornamentais e históricas, viabilizando e compatibilizando as suas novas funções com a continuidade do objeto histórico. Esta dissertação procura compreender de que modo as normas e cartas internacionais foram relevantes para o projetista e para o modo como interveio buscando identificá-las nos projetos realizados. Após a análise dos estudos de caso selecionados, estruturados pela ordem cronológica dos projetos de intervenção, é proposta uma relação entre as pousadas estudadas, os diferentes tipos de intervenções, os métodos de intervenção aplicados, as formas de os diferenciar, e as correspondências identificadas com as normas e cartas internacionais disponíveis à data dos projetos. Os temas em debate centra-se na importância da teoria da conservação e do restauro, expressa através das normas e cartas internacionais, para a intervenção em património e garantir a manutenção da memória do passado para as gerações futuras; Abstract: - TITLE: The Pousadas in Portugal: interventions in historic buildings in light of international charters and recommendations - This dissertation addresses the theme of how the interventions in the Pousadas de Portugal in the second part of the 20th century dealt with the standards of international charters, taking into account the conservation and restoration of monuments and sites. The aim is to make a historical research that frames the implementation and the course of the reconversions of use throughout the Portuguese 20th century and the choice of notable case studies that allow a correct approach to the subject. The study falls on the cases of adaptation of heritage buildings to national inns, inserted in the second half of the twentieth century. The development of the work seeks to understand the historical processes that led to the implementation of the pousadas in Portugal, and the evolution of this type of interventions through time, from the mid-twentieth century to the present day. Then, and after a selection of the case studies according to their importance, in what concerns the way of intervening in the heritage. Each example will be followed by a historical analysis of the building, a description of the architect's approach to intervention, and a brief description of the building already enjoying its new function. The dissertation aims to research how the pousadas have dealt with the standards taking into account the historical evolution of pousadas in Portugal. After the analysis of selected case studies, being structured according to a chronological order of the projects of the interventions. The aim is to establish relationships between the studied inns by clarifying the type of approach to heritage, the different types of interventions, the influences that one exerts on the other and the methods that distinguish them. The singularity that constitutes each historic building extends to the actions carried out in them, requiring a unique intervention method that values all the intrinsic meanings of the architectural heritage. The aim of this dissertation is to examine how the pousadas deal with the rules, taking into account the historical evolution of pousadas in Portugal, and starting by contextualizing the historical context that led to the implementation of this particular program in Portugal. After the analysis of the selected case studies, the chronological order of the intervention projects is structured. It aims to establish the relationship between the studied inns, elucidate the types of heritage treatment methods, the different types of interventions the ways to differentiate them. The topics to be discussed focus on the importance of heritage restoration as a tool to ensure the maintenance of memory. The memory of the past must be transferred to the future. In this sense, it is interesting to know how were the interventions in these historic buildings and how they dealt with the international charters and recommendations.
