“Recruitment and Selection of the Tattooed Worker in Portugal”
The marginal character of tattooing has slowly and progressively turned into a mass
phenomenon, inserting itself in new social and professional contexts, reflecting new
trends and realities. The objective of this work is to diagnose the extent to which
tattooing is a constraint on the hiring of workers by recruitment and selection
companies, seeking to contribute, through descriptive exploratory study, to the
understanding of the growing phenomenon of permanent tattooing in Portugal,
evaluating the existence (or not) prejudice against tattooing and whether this influences
the decision to hire a professional and what are the implications of this personal choice
in professional life. This study revealed, on the one hand, that, in the labor market,
individuals ostensibly tattooed without distinction by their peer group and, on the other
hand, that we are in fact witnessing a paradigm shift, with recruitment and selection
companies placing the emphasis in inclusion and diversity, with the tattoo being seen
more and more as a personal and identity option, demarcating itself from the stigma
that has always been associated with it. |
