As conclusões baseiam-se na comparação com outros estudos desenvolvidos nesta área; Psychomotor Intervention in Reducing the Risk of Falls in Institutionalized Elderly People: a psychic-bodily approach.
Abstract:
Today's society is characterized by an aging demographic, transversal in so-called developed societies. There are more elderly people with a high level of dependency, reduced mobility, and a history of falling. Falls are accidents that occur at any age but are more complex in the elderly population. During the internship period, it was intended to investigate whether psychomotor intervention can take a preventive role in the risk of falling in institutionalized elderly. Three therapeutic interventions were developed: two with two elderly people in individual session and one group intervention. The variables, under study, were evaluated with instruments validated for the Portuguese population. The results obtained allow us to conclude that the therapeutic intervention, based on gerontopsychomotricity, shows to be effective in promoting mobility and functionality of institutionalized elderly, contributing to reduce the risk of falls, acting preventively. Conclusions are based on a comparison with other studies developed in this area. |
