Empresas familiares portuguesas: caracteristicas e análise da performance

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho consite no estudo da performance das PME familiares portuguesas. Dados foram recolhidos de 4718 empresas, num período de 2008 a 2012 da base de dados SABI. Com vista à confirmação das hipóteses, a performance foi medida pelo ROA e ROE, e testada através de correlações e modelos de dados em painel com efeitos aleatórios. As variáveis independentes usadas foram a dimensão, o endividamento, o crescimento do volume de negócios, a idade da empresa e o setor de atividade. Os resultados mostraram que a performance das PME familiares portuguesas tem uma relação positiva, estatisticamente significativa, com a dimensão da empresa e o crescimento do volume de negócios e uma relação negativa, estatisticamente significativa, com o endividamento e a idade. A variável dummy setor de atividade, na maioria dos setores que a compõem, influência negativamente a performance quando comparada com o setor de atividade da prestação de serviços; Portuguese Family Business: Characteristics and Performance Analysis Abstract: The purpose of this work is to study the performance of Portuguese family SMEs. Data were collected from 4718 family businesses in a period of 2008 to 2012 of the SABI database. To confirm the hypothesis, the performance was measured by ROA and ROE, and tested through correlations and panel data models with random effects. The independent variables used were the size, the indebtedness, the growth of turnover, the age of the company and the activity sector. The results showed that the performance of Portuguese family SMEs has a positive, statistically significant relationship with the size of the company and the growth of turnover and a negative, statistically significant, relationship with the indebtedness and age. The dummy variable sector of activity, in most of the sectors that make up it, negatively influence the performance when compared with the activity sector of the provision of services.
