Atitudes de estudantes de educação social e da população em geral face às pessoas com deficiência intelectual

Abstract

Os objetivos do presente estudo foram conhecer as atitudes de estudantes de educação social e de sujeitos da população em geral face às pessoas com deficiência intelectual (DI), e caraterizá-las nas dimensões cognitiva, afetiva e comportamental. O Attitudes Toward Intellectual Disability Questionnaire (ATTID) foi traduzido e adaptado para a língua portuguesa e administrado presencialmente a 222 sujeitos. Os resultados evidenciaram posições ambivalentes nas três componentes atitudinais, conhecimentos pouco precisos sobre a DI e sugerem mais sentimentos de compaixão e maior reserva na interação com pessoas com DI que apresentam dificuldades funcionais severas. Comparativamente, os estudantes de educação social mostraram atitudes mais favoráveis quanto à defesa dos direitos das pessoas com DI e na interação com elas. Concluímos que é necessário promover estratégias educativas, quer junto de futuros profissionais de intervenção psicossocial, quer da população em geral, que potenciem uma maior consciencialização e atitudes efetivamente inclusivas face às pessoas com DI; ATTITUDES OF SOCIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS AND PUBLIC ATTITUDES TOWARDS PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES Abstract: The objectives of the present study were to know the attitudes of social education students and public attitudes towards persons with intellectual disability (ID), and characterize the attitudes in the cognitive, affective and behavioral dimensions. The Attitudes Toward Intellectual Disability Questionnaire (ATTID) was translated and adapted into the Portuguese language and administered in person to a total of 222 individuals. The results evidenced ambivalent positions regarding all three attitudinal dimensions, lack of knowledge about ID, and suggested more feelings of compassion and more reserve in the interaction with persons with ID presenting severe functional difficulties. Comparatively, social education students have shown more favorable attitudes in advocating for the rights and interacting with persons with ID. We conclude that it is necessary to promote educational strategies, both to the future professionals of psychosocial intervention and to the general population, that encourage greater awareness and effectively inclusive attitudes towards people with ID.
