Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio é sobre a tradução do Estudo Erasmus relativo ao ano lectivo de 2005-2006 elaborado pelo Mestre Manuel Catita (que foi igualmente o co-orientador deste trabalho), intitulado "Caracterização da mobilidade dos estudantes Erasmus portugueses 2005-2006" O relatório descreve os desafios e dificuldades que surgiram na tradução do Estudo Erasmus do seu original em Língua Portuguesa para Língua Inglesa. Tais desafios consistiram em várias possibilidades de tradução para um mesmo termo, a necessidade de alterar algumas frases ou expressões de modo a que façam mais sentido na língua de chegada, termos técnicos do contexto académico, entre outros. Para cada uma destas questões foi apresentada a resposta encontrada e a sua respectiva justificação. Este relatório engloba igualmente os recursos e tecnologias utilizados na sua elaboração, tais como dicionários, dicionários electrónicos/ dicionários on-line e sítios da Internet que permitiram a comparação de termos, a escolha do termo mais apropriado e a pesquisa de informação extra. Foi igualmente feito um levantamento dos termos e expressões considerados mais importantes relativos a termos técnicos e/ou académicos que foram compilados num glossário. O trabalho de estágio foi importante ao demonstrar a necessidade de confirmar os termos e frases várias vezes para ter certeza de que estão correctos e a definir qual o melhor termo a utilizar em determinada situação. Também mostrou que não se deve tentar "forçar" uma palavra ou expressão só porque esta surge no texto original, uma vez que por vezes é preferível o uso de uma frase reformulada que transmita o contexto original. - ABSTRACT: The current report is about rny training period and the translation of the Erasmus Study regarding the acadernic year of 2005-2006 done by Mr. Manuel Catita (who also served as co-coordinator of this assignment), entitled "Characterization of the Portuguese Erasmus students' mobility 2005/06". The following report describes the challenges and difficulties that carne up in the translation of the original Erasmus study from Portuguese into English. Those challenges consisted in several translation possibilities for the same term, the need to change some sentences or expressions in such a way as to make more sense in the target language, and technical terms regarding the academic context, amongst others. For each of these questions the answer that was found and its respective justification were presented. This report also mentions the resources and technologies used, such as dictionaries, electronic/ on-line dictionaries and Internet sites which allowed the comparison of terms, the choice of the most appropriate term and research of additional information. It also compiles in a glossary important technical and/or academic terms. The training period and the assignment given were very important by showing the need to double check terms and sentences several times in order to be sure that they are correct and to define which term is the best to use in a given situation. It also showed that we should not try to force a word or expression just because it appears in the original text, since sometimes it is best to use a reformulated sentence that transmits the original context.
