A adoção e o bem-estar da criança: a perspetiva de mães e pais adotantes. Um estudo exploratório

Abstract

O presente estudo visa perceber, de acordo com a perspetiva de mães e pais adotantes, o contributo da adoção para o bem-estar da criança. Para tal, procura-se analisar o entendimento dos mesmos em relação ao bem-estar da criança, assim como as motivações à adoção e principais dificuldades sentidas no processo de adoção e finalmente, compreender a adaptação da criança e da família à mudança, bem como as estratégias utilizadas para o efeito. No estudo, foram envolvidos nove participantes, mães e pais adotantes, aos quais foi realizada uma entrevista semiestruturada. Os resultados foram analisados com recurso à técnica de análise de conteúdo, tendo revelado uma coincidência entre o entendimento das mães e pais adotantes sobre o bem-estar da criança e os dados da literatura. Verificou-se também, uma adaptação pautada por algumas dificuldades e necessidades da criança, sendo o apoio técnico uma das principais estratégias de integração utilizada pelas mães e pais adotantes; Adoption and children well-being: Adoptive mothers and fathers perspective. An exploratory study Abstract: This study aims to understand, according to adoptive mothers and fathers perspective, the contribution of adoption for the children’s well-being. To this end, it seeks to analyze the understanding of them in relation to children’s well-being, as well as the motivation to adopt, the main difficulties in the adoption process and finally to understand the adaptation of the child and family to change as well as the strategies used for the purpose. In this study, there were involved nine participants, adoptive mothers and fathers, to which a semi-structured interview was conducted. The results were analyzed using the content analysis technique, which has revealed similar results with the literature. There has been revealed an adaptation marked by difficulties and needs of the child, with the technical support one the main integration strategies used by adoptive mothers and fathers.
