Arraiolos Medieval, organização do espaço e estruturas sociais

Abstract

O presente trabalho insere-se no âmbito do estudo da história urbana e pretende tratar a evolução da vila de Arraiolos, nas suas organizações e enquadramento social e administrativo, bem como a do seu espaço envolvente entre os séculos XIII e XVI. Para tal, importante, antes de mais, estabelecer a localização geográfica da Vila relativamente a circuitos comerciais, bem como inventariar, na medida das fontes disponíveis, as principais atividades económicas que aqui se desenvolveram, para a partir dai refletir sobre a importância que esta localização e atividades detiveram na organização urbana e disposição interna da vila. Salientando a importância da muralha, com elemento definidor do espaço urbano, também será feita, com base nestes dados, uma caracterização das mas, e ao mesmo tempo uma tentativa de explicar o crescimento ao longo dos séculos medievos relacionando-o com a circulação de pessoas, produtos e mercadorias. Por último deter-nos-emos no estudo das instituições eclesiásticas e políticas, assim como tentaremos elaborar uma abordagem da composição social de Arraiolos. Inevitavelmente dar-se-á uma atenção especial aos grupos sociais mais elevados que se representam primeiramente pelas suas “sedes” materiais, ou melhor dizendo, os principais edifícios da vila. A sua localização e funcionalidade serão objeto de estudo. Neste campo destacaremos ainda a ação do poder municipal e as suas tentativas de controlar e regulamentar o comércio, ao mesmo tempo que introduzia medidas de carácter sanitário (Posturas Municipais). Para completa: todo este quadro dará uma particular atenção ao papel desempenhado pelas Confrarias e também pela Misericórdia no que toca à assistência, e às políticas desenvolvidas por estas instituições no apoio aos mais necessitados. /ABSTRACT - The present work its part of the study os urban history and it focus the evolution of Arraiolos village according to its organization and social structures as well as its surrounding space between XIII and XVI centuries. To do this, it will be important, before anything else, to establish the geographic location of the village in relation to the trade circuits and make an inventory, according to the sources we have available, of the main economic activities that were here developed, to reflect about the importance of this location and activities to the urban organization and internal disposition of the village. S strengthening the importance of the w all as a defining element of the urban space, it will also be made, according to these data, a characterization of the streets, and at the same time we will try to explain the growing across the medieval centuries relating it with the circulation of people, products and merchandise. ln the end, we will study the ecclesiastic and politic institutions, as well as we will try to elaborate an approach to the social composition of Arraiolos. Nevertheless, we give a special attention to the higher social groups that represent in the first place the material “headquarters”, or, the main buildings of the village lts location and functionality will be object of study. At this area, we will also reinforce the action of the local power and how it tries to control and regulate the trade, and at the same time it introduces sanitary measures (Municipal Laws). To complete, we will give a particular attention to the role played by the Confraternities and also by the Mercy in assistance and politics developed by these institutions to support the more needed.
