As instituições sociais e de saúde na perspectiva das famílias com jovens deficiententes: o caso particular de um Concelho do Baixo Alentejo

Abstract

A família, enquanto instituição social, tem como principal função cuidar dos seus membros mais jovens garantindo a satisfação das suas necessidades e estimulando a sua autonomia com vista à sua plena integração na sociedade. A existência de um jovem portador de deficiência numa família representa um acréscimo substancial de dificuldades e sofrimento para todos os envolvidos. A existência de redes de suporte (formais e informais) que respondam às suas necessidades reais é crucial para a manutenção da integridade dessas famílias. É importante que exista, perto dessas famílias, uma instituição que possua os meios necessários para lhes poder dar suporte e ajuda e para coordenar a necessária articulação com as várias instituições de saúde e sociais onde os jovens são seguidos. Este estudo analisa as dificuldades e as necessidades de suporte e ajuda das famílias com jovens deficientes, residentes num concelho do distrito de Beja - Baixo Alentejo, e a forma como os diferentes atores envolvidos lhes dão resposta. /ABSTRACT - As a social institution, the family's main task is to care of its younger members providing them with the satisfaction of their needs and stimulating their autonomy seeking their full integration in the society. The existence of a handicapped child or teenager in a family represents a substantial increase of difficulties and suffering for everybody involved. The presence of supporting nets (formal and informal) which respond to their real needs is crucial in order to preserve the integrity of those families. It is very important the existence of an institution near those families to give them support and aid and also to coordinate the necessary articulation between all social and health institutions where its handicapped young members are attended. This study analyzes the difficulties and needs off support and aid felt by the families with handicapped young people, living in a county of the district of Beja - Baixo Alentejo, and the way the different agents respond to the whole situation.
