Recepção de Gunter Grass em Portugal: contributo da tradução para a recepção pacífica de um autor polémico (1964-2007)

Abstract

Este estudo aborda a receção da obra de Günter Grass, em Portugal, desde a sua primeira publicação, o romance épico 0 Tambor, em 1964, até aos nossos dias, com a polémica autobiografia Descascando a Cebola. O nosso estudo inventaria e analisa os sinais da receção da atividade literária e artística de Günter Grass, entre 1964 e 2007, e analisa numa perspetiva crítica a posição de jornalistas, críticos literários e escritores. O nosso trabalho inclui um estudo de caso - Uma Longa História - na medida em que pretendemos averiguar como o ato de traduzir também contribuiu para a receção pacífica de um autor polémico na Alemanha, mas admirado fora das fronteiras do seu país. A nossa tese insere-se no âmbito da Literatura Comparada e a sua fundamentação teórica apoia-se nos Estudos de Receção (Jauss, lser e Mukarovsky), Estudos de Tradução (Bassnet, Lambert) e na Teoria do Polissistema (Even-Zohar e Toury), disciplinas fundamentais para o estudo dos contactos culturais e das relações literárias entre os diversos países. /ABSTRACT - This study is about the reception of Günter Grass's work in Portugal since his first publication, the epic novel “The Tin Drum ”, in 1964, until nowadays with the polemic autobiography “Peeling Onions The present work makes an inventory of the testimonies of the reception of Günter Grass’s literary and artistic activity between 1964 and 2007. Furthermore it analyses in a critical perspective the position of journalist, literary critics and writers. Our work includes a case-study - Too Far Afield - as we intend to require how the act of translation contributes to a pacific reception of a polemic author in his own country, but an admired one outside German borders. Our dissertation sets in a scope of the study field of Compared Literature and its theoretical fundamentation is based on the Reception Studies (Jauss, Iser and Mukarovsky), the Translation Studies (Bassnet and Lambert) and the Polisystem-Theory (Even-Zohar and Toury). These disciplines are fundamental for the study of cultural contact and relationship between the literary systems as they allow us a better knowledge of the reception systems.
