O enfermeiro perante o utente de etnia cigana no espaço físico hospitalar: o Serviço de Urgência do Hospital Doutor José Maria Grande: (um estudo de caso)

Abstract

Esta temática é de certo modo complexa e muito abrangente. A cultura é um fenómeno universal que se manifesta em todas as sociedades humanas como forma de responder às necessidades do Homem. Contudo, não existe uniformidade na resposta a essas necessidades porque não existe apenas uma cultura mas sim várias culturas. A diversidade cultural manifesta-se em diferentes padrões culturais, tal como as relações interpessoais no grupo, a forma como se passam os tempos livres e se ocupa determinado espaço, podem representar comportamentos padronizados numa determinada sociedade. Uma situação de doença/desequilíbrio obriga o doente a tomar público por assim dizer a sua situação quando recorre à instituição de saúde. É abandonado o domínio privado da doença e o grupo restrito no qual se está inserido, para se dar entrada num hospital onde a doença é socializada. Para o utente de etnia cigana, a permanência num hospital é complicada, além do stress associado à situação clínica que não consegue controlar, vê-se ao mesmo tempo afastado do seu grupo, do seu espaço, do seu ambiente, levando-o a sentimentos de insegurança extremos, medo e desconfiança perante o desconhecido, no que diz respeito aos técnicos de saúde que lhe prestam cuidados assim como ao espaço físico propriamente dito que lhe é estranho e confuso. A intervenção do enfermeiro num Serviço de Urgência, junto de uma comunidade que possui uma cultura diferente, como seja, a comunidade cigana, pressupõe então um conhecimento da mesma a fim de se conseguir interpretar as suas atitudes e comportamentos. Tentando compreender melhor aquela relação, desenvolveu este trabalho confrontando as atitudes manifestadas entre enfermeiro versus cigano no serviço onde por questões profissionais desempenha a sua atividade. Pretende-se com esta dissertação, um estudo sobre as questões que esta relação invoca, configurando como estratégia de pesquisa, o estudo de caso. /ABSTRACT - The Nurse in the Presence of Patients from the Gypsy Community in the Hospital Enviromnent. A Case Study - The Emergency Service at H.D.J.M.G. This subject is in a certain way complex and very wide-ranging. Culture is a universal phenomenon that appears in all human societies as a reflection of mankind. However, there is no uniformity in these reflections because there is not just one culture but various cultures. Diverse culture is expressed in different cultural ways, such as the interpersonal relationships within a group, in the way that free time is spent and the occupation of a specific space, can lead to different behavior within a certain social group. Illness and confusion makes a patient speak out about his/her situation when appealing to the health service. Individual privacy is removed from the patient and the group is restricted to where they are placed, to allow the admission of the patient into the hospital. For gypsy patients staying in a hospital is complicated. In addition to the stress associated with a clinical situation which they are unable to control, they must spend time removed from their group, from their home and environment. This leads to an increase in excessive feelings of insecurity, fear and lack of confidence in the face of the unknown, such as the health professions responsible for their care as well as the hospital environment which is strange and confusing. The work of the nurse in the Emergency Department, together with a community from a different culture, presupposes knowledge of that community that enables the interpretation of their attitudes and behaviour. Endeavoring to achieve a better understanding of these issues developed in this work, we must examine the attitudes displayed between the nurse and the gypsy where professional disputes appear during treatment. This dissertation intends to present a study of the disputes that this relationship produces, together with an investigation and case study.
