Darkly dreaming dexter de Jeff Lindsay. Efeito dexter: o paradoxo do homicídio em série

Abstract

A presente dissertação pretende constituir um estudo de Darkly Dreaming Dexter de Jeff Lindsay, a partir da sua integração na tradição literária do Gótico Americano, aproveitando, simultaneamente, para divulgar este autor contemporâneo e reconhecer toda a sua originalidade e actualidade. Assim, o objectivo principal será demonstrar que este autor se insere plenamente no cânone da literatura gótica contemporânea, destacando características da sua escrita e temáticas abordadas ao longo da obra em questão. No desenvolvimento desta dissertação, proceder-se-á a uma abordagem à obra, partindo do tema do paradoxo, o qual é recorrente na ficção gótica, sempre interessada na transgressão de fronteiras e categorias estéticas e éticas. Para ilustrar algumas ideias e aprofundar a temática recorrente nesta dissertação, ter-se-á também em consideração a relação da literatura com as outras artes, nomeadamente o cinema e as artes plásticas, de onde se destacarão autores e obras que, igualmente, evocam o paradoxo como fonte de inspiração. Para sustentar as ideias apresentadas, recorrer-se-á às opiniões de vários teóricos e críticos literários, os quais permitirão sustentar e aprofundar a ligação de Lindsay à tradição gótica americana; ABSTRACT:The present dissertation intends to be a study about Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, from its integration into the literary tradition of American Gothic, leveraging it to promote this contemporary author and recognize, simultaneously, all his originality and timeliness. Thus, the main objective will be to demonstrate that this author is fully inserted in the canon of the contemporary Gothic literature, highlighting features of his writing and themes discussed throughout the book in question. In the development of this dissertation, it will make an approach to this work, based on the theme of paradox, which is recurrent in Gothic fiction, always interested in breaking boundaries and categories of aesthetics and ethics. To illustrate some ideas and deepen the recurrent theme in this dissertation, we will also have to consider the relationship between literature and the other arts, namely cinema and plastic arts, from where we will highlight authors and works that also evoke the paradox as a source of inspiration. To support the ideas presented, it will resort to the opinions of various theorists and literary critics, which will sustain and deepen the connection of Lindsay to the American Gothic tradition.
