As part of the model of Lam and Jimerson (2008) of Students Engagement with
School, this study, with a 300 students sample, from the 9th, 10th and 11th school
years of Schools in Évora, aimed to understand the relationship between Students
Engagement with School (Students Engagement School Scale), its dimensions, the
attachment to parents, peers and teacher (Attachment Scales IPPA-R), Well-Being
(Psychologycal Well-Being Scale for Adolescents) and School Outcomes, trought the
application of self-report. There were also made comparisons of the participants’
average scores by gender and school year. The results suggest that girls are more
engaged with the school, that engagement increases over the school years, and
configures a significant predictor of school outcomes, together with the well-being, and
vice versa. Attachment to teachers proved to be a significant predictor of all dimensions
of engagement, showing that teachers are a main piece for the intervention that aims
promoting the engagement. |
