As elites urbanas medievais. O exemplo de Évora e dos Lobo (sécs. XIII-XV)

Abstract

Assumindo Évora e a família Lobo como estudos de caso, esta dissertação pretende contribuir para o desenvolver o conhecimento sobre as características das elites urbanas durante a baixa idade média portuguesa e desenvolver questões tais como a constituição, organização, reprodução e consolidação destas elites, que em alguns casos conduziria mesmo à nobilitação da linhagem nas últimas década do século XV. A análise irá basear-se num inquérito dividido por três vetores principais: o poder, a proximidade aos centros de poder e a participação nos eventos do período; a linhagem, o desenvolvimento de relações familiares e sociais e de uma memória coletiva; finalmente, o património, a base material que ajudaria a sustentar o estatuto social da linhagem; ABSTRACT: Assuming Évora and the Lobo family as case studies, this dissertation aims to contribute to increase the knowledge about the caractheristics of the urban elites during the portuguese late middle ages and to develop such questions as the constitution, organization, reproduction and consolidation of this elites, which in cases such as this would even lead to the ennoblement of the lineage in the last decades of the 15th century. The analysis will be based in an enquiry divided into three main vectors: the power, the proximity to the political centers and the participation in the events of the period; the lineage, the development of family and social relationships and of a collective memory; finally, the property, the material basis that would help to support the social status of the lineage.
