The new measures introduced in the course of the PAC reform, lead to the changing of the technical ways of wheat crop in Alentejo, aiming to reduce the production costs. Since soil tillage has a great importance in the total amount of crop costs, the technologies of reduced tillage, mainly the direct drilling, seem to be a good alternative. The utilisation of this technique has a donble advantage - it is able to increase the competitiveness of the agricultural systems of dryland and it also lds to a more sustainable farming, through soil preservation. Changes of the traditional systems of soil tillage to techniques of direct drilling require the study of the suitability of genotypes to this practice. This study aims to evaluate the behaviour of 15 genotypes of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in two of soil tillage systems - conventional tillage (CT) and direct drilling (DD). The results obtained show there is no genotype interaction, which means that genotypes have a similar behaviour in the two tillage systems. Meanwhile, for almost all of genotypes the grain yield is higher in the direct drilling system, as a result of a greater number of spikes m-2, greater number of grátis m-2, as will as greater production of biomass during the vegetative period and up to anthesis. The study of the root system of four genotypes at anthesis shows good relation with the behaviour of the upper pari, namely with grain production, and an interaction of the tillage systemxgenotypexdepth with the root length and density. |
