CMP e a AE; ### The mediation of positive and negative affects in the effect of subjective functional
health on self-esteem in elderly people
Abstract:
This study aimed to understand if the indirect effect of Positive Affects (PA) and
Negative Affects (NA) enhances the direct effect of Perceived Motor Skills (PMS) over
Self-Esteem (SE). The sample was constituted by 406 elderly, autonomous, people,
none of which was institutionalized (age median= 73 years old), selected through nonprobabilistic
sampling, while controlling for dementia and depression. The tests that
pertain each construct were applied: the Questionnaire for Perceived Motor Skills, the
Positive and Negative Affects Scale and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The
constructs and the mediation model were tested through structural equation modeling.
The results indicate that the indirect effect of the PA had an influence in the overall
effect, thus constituting a strong mediator of the relation between PMS and SE. The
results also indicate that the NA had no mediating effect on the relation between PMS
and SE. |
