Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing self-care interventions compared to standard care in improving self-care and quality of life among older adults with chronic conditions. Introduction: Chronic diseases are prevalent globally, especially among older adults. Managing these conditions effectively is an ongoing challenge, and self-care has emerged as a key strategy to enhance quality of life and autonomy. Nursing interventions focused on self-care have the potential to empower older adults to better manage their chronic conditions. This systematic review aims to synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of these interventions in older adults. Inclusion criteria: This review will include studies involving adults (≥65 years) with chronic conditions. Interventions will encompass nurse-led self-care strategies compared to standard care or other control conditions. Outcomes of interest include self-care behaviors, quality of life, and measures of physical and mental health. Eligible studies include randomized clinical trials, quasi-experimental studies, cohort studies, case-control studies, and cross-sectional studies published in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Methods: The search strategy will include databases such as EBSCOhost, PubMed, B-on, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). Study selection, critical appraisal, and data extraction will be independently performed by two reviewers. Data will be synthesized using meta-analysis when possible and narrative synthesis for qualitative data.
