Abstract: The high number of megalithic funerary monuments erected in the Alentejo between the 4th and 3rd millennia BC, with their more or less imposing tumulus, would certainly be a striking element in these poorly humanized landscapes, which is why it would necessarily have to attract the attention of the populations that built them, but also the generations to come who, until the 21st century, perceived them in different ways: some understood and respected their functions and memories, others, for the most varied reasons, violated and destroyed these spaces. Over the last few decades, we have been working on a set of megalithic monuments that prove this complex reality, the use and (re)use of these spaces, but also, in some cases, their destruction. The Anta da Murteira de Cima (Torre de Coelheiros, Évora), which was intervened in 2019, opened even more the horizons of analysis around this theme.
