Abstract: Chapter 16, "Current support systems in Portugal", provides an overview of the support systems currently implemented in Portugal for children and young people with multiple disabilities and complex, intensive support needs. This chapter, which falls under Part II of the book (Current support systems in eight European regions), highlights how Portuguese policies and infrastructure are structured to facilitate support. It is noted that Portugal's system tends to be more focused on educational and social inclusion compared to countries prioritizing individualized and technical supports. The summary serves to illustrate the national context of support systems and their mechanisms for promoting quality of life and inclusion.
