A Geografia exílica na literatura portuguesa de autoria afrodescendente

Abstract

A ideia desta tese nasce da observação de um movimento que aparenta ser muito recente, mas que os caminhos de investigação foram mostrando raízes que denotam ser bem mais profundas e, por isso, pregressas: a escrita literária de autoria afrodescendente em Portugal. Partindo do estudo de três obras, suas autoras e o contexto de produção, a tese tem como objetivo investigar a formulação conceitual da “geografia exílica” na bio/grafia dessas autoras. A perspectiva sugerida na formulação utilizada por Inocência Mata para associar a esta literatura, foi utilizada para pensar um conjunto de obras marcado pelo topos do deslocamento; personagens que carregam como traço notável uma “condição exílica”; e espaços que são narrados como territórios exílicos, que inviabilizam a capacidade de pertencimento dessas personagens, configurando-se, para esses, como verdadeiras cartografias da inaptidão. Sendo assim, num primeiro momento, foi necessário localizar essas escritas no interior do sistema em que se revelam, por meio de um qualificador – afrodescendente – que as visibilizem dentro de um contexto micro que é o sistema literário português, e as vinculem a um movimento macro que é a Black Europe (cronotopo em que as in/visibilidades negras estão sendo contestadas). Os topoi do deslocamento abrem um caminho de análise dessas narrativas, e as posicionam num locus movediço, no qual os estudos sobre diáspora deram o suporte teórico para entendimento das escritas de autoria de Telma Tvon, Djaimilia Almeida e Yara Monteiro produzidas no trânsito e para o exercício de lê-las, considerando a pluralidade dos seus lugares e das suas origens. Encontrados os pontos em que essas escritas se tocam, foi possível percebê-las num movimento sugestivo para a conformação de um campo, porque apresentam elementos de uma estética e discursividade transversais. Num segundo momento, desenvolvemos a formulação conceitual da “geografia exílica”, a partir dos espaços da ficção e da movimentação das personagens nestes espaços. Os modos de abordar o espaço foram apoiados pela Geocrítica, do campo de pesquisa da Geografia Literária, área que me permitiu reunir estas duas práticas de espaço, a Geografia e a Literatura, para compreender a experiência dos sujeitos nos territórios exílicos. Para desenvolver a tese, utilizo métodos comparatistas e um aporte teórico dos Estudos Culturais e Pós-coloniais. Esta tese é pensada a partir e através da formulação teórica da “geografia exílica”, e tem como objetivo central cartografar a experiência exílica das personagens nas narrativas Um Preto Muito Português (2017), Luanda, Lisboa, Paraíso (2018) e Essa Dama Bate Bué!; - The Exilic Geography in Portuguese Literature by Afro-descent Authorship ABSTRACT: The idea for this thesis came from observing a movement which at first sight seemed to be very recent, but which research shows has roots which are much deeper and which precede it: literary writings of Afro-descent authorship in Portugal. Examining three different works, their authors, and the context in which they were produced, the aim of the thesis is to investigate the conceptual formulation of “Exilic Geography” with regard to the background of these three writers. The perspective suggested in Inocência Mata’s formulation to refer to this kind of literature, was used to analyze a set of works marked by the topos of displacement; characters who are laden with the significant trait of a “condition of exile”; and spaces which are narrated as being places of exile, which prevent these characters from feeling they ever truly belong, places configured, for them, as actual cartographies of inadequacy. It was therefore necessary, right from the start, to locate these writings within the system in which they appear, using a qualifier – afro-descent – with which they are regarded within the micro-context of the Portuguese literary system, and which link them to a the macro-system known as Black Europe (a chronotope in which black (in)visibility is contested). The topoi of displacement open up these narratives to a path of analysis and places them in a shifting locus, in which studies about the diaspora give the theoretical foundation with which to understand the writings of Telma Tvon, Djaimilia Almeida and Yara Monteiro, produced “in transit” as it were, taking into account the plurality of their current places of residence and their origins. Having discovered the points these writings had in common, it was possible to perceive them as making up a special field, since they contain elements of a certain aesthetic and transverse discourse. Subsequently, the formulation of “Exilic Geography” was developed, stemming from the fictional spaces and the movement of characters within these spaces. The method of approaching the idea of space was supported by Geocriticism, part of the research field of Literary Geography. This made it possible to bring together two ideas of space, the geographic and the literary, in order to understand the experience of people in places of exile. In order to develop the thesis, I have made use of comparative methodology and the theoretical foundations of Cultural Studies and Post-Colonial Theories. This research has its origins in and has been elaborated through the theory of “Exilic Geography”, and its main objective is to map the condition and experience of exile experienced by the characters in the writings Um Preto Muito Português (2017), Luanda, Lisboa, Paraíso (2018) and Essa Dama Bate Bué!.
