Abstract:
This study investigated the effect of perceived motor ability on the relationship between age, sex, educational attainment (predictor variables), and cognitive functioning (criterion variable). The sample consisted of 77 volunteer participants in the municipality of Grândola, aged 65 or over. The Mini-Mental State Examination and Geriatric Depression Scale: Reduced Version screening tests were applied. The sum of the results of the items in the Perceived Basic Motor Skills Questionnaire (PBMSQ) and the results of the Trail Making Test (TMT), forms A and B, were taken, respectively, as the mediating and criterion variables of the model of interest under study. A path-analysis using LISREL showed that all the predictors were related to the TMT-B and only education was related to the PBMSQ. |
