Le patrimoine industriel de la Société de Developpement du Coton (SODECOTON) de 1950 à nos jours: étude et mise en valeur touristique

Abstract

Les activités de la Société de Développement du Coton couvre les trois régions septentrionales du Cameroun. Son histoire industrielle remonte à 1950 est surtout connue dans le domaine de la culture et de la transformation du coton. Bien qu’étant encore en activité, plusieurs sites de la SODECOTON sont en friches. Dans une perspective de valorisation territoriale, mémorielle et touristique nous pensons à s’interroger sur les méthodes d’appropriation de ce patrimoine. Il est clair qu’en face du patrimoine naturel et culturel, les perspectives de mise en valeur du patrimoine industrielle sont récentes. Quels sont les raisons pour lesquelles le patrimoine industriel de la SODECOTON n’est pas mis en valeur ? Dans une perspective patrimoniale et selon une approche historique, systémique, nous présenterons cette société comme ayant des caractéristiques nécessaires pour être l’objet d’une mise en tourisme de son patrimoine industriel. Mieux encore, à travers une étude de la SODECOTON, nous montrerons qu’il y’a une appropriation symbolique de l’ensemble de ce patrimoine dans l’histoire et le développement des régions du Nord Cameroun d’où l’importance de densifier les actions visant la sauvegarde et une meilleure intégration dans les pratiques culturelles des populations locales; The industrial heritage of the Cotton Development Company (SODECOTON) from 1950 to the present day: study and tourist development - Sumary: The activities of Cotton Development Compagny cover the three northern regions of Cameroon. Its industrial history dates back to 1950 and is mainly known in the field of cotton cultivation and processing. Although still in operation, several SODECOTON sites are abandoned. In a perspective of territorial, memorial and tourist valorisation, we think of questioning the methods of appropriation of this heritage. It is clear that, in comparison with natural and cultural heritage, the prospects for the development of industrial heritage are recent. What are the reasons why the industrial heritage of SODECOTON is not promoted? From a heritage perspective and according to a historical, systemic approach, we will present this company as having the necessary characteristics to be the object of a of its industrial heritage. Better still, through a study of SODECOTON, we will show that there is a symbolic appropriation of the whole of this heritage in the history and development of the regions of North Cameroon, hence the importance of intensifying actions aimed at safeguarding and better integrating it into the cultural practices of local populations.
