Clínica de espécies pecuárias

Abstract

O presente relatório de Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade de Évora tem como objetivo descrever as atividades realizadas ao longo de cinco meses de estágio curricular. Este está dividido em duas partes distintas. Na primeira parte será feita uma descrição do Hospital Veterinário Muralha de Évora, relatada toda a casuística realizada e acompanhada pelo orientador externo, Dr. José Miguel Leal da Costa, assim como a abordagem de alguns temas mais comuns na clínica de espécies pecuárias. Na segunda parte será apresentada uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a paranfistomatose, uma parasitose que aparenta ser sub-diagnosticada em Portugal. Esta é causada por um trematode do sistema digestivo de ruminantes, do género Paramphistomum, dando-se especial destaque à espécie Paramphistomum cervi, por ser a mais descrita na Europa. Esta segunda parte será concluída com a apresentação de um caso clínico acompanhado durante o estágio; Abstract: Medical practice in livestock species This report on the onset of the Master’s Degree of Veterinary Medicine by the University of Évora has the purpose of describing the activities throughout five months of the curricular traineeship. The same is divided in two different parts. The first part describes the case load followed and practiced upon by the mentor, Dr. José Miguel Leal da Costa, as well as the description of the activities on the Hospital Veterinarian Muralha de Évora, approaching some common situations in large animal practice. The second part presents a review of a parasitosis that is believed to be underdiagnosed in Portugal, namely paramphistomosis. It’s caused by a trematode of the digestive tract of ruminants, Paramphistomum spp., with special interest to the species Paramphistomum cervi, the most common in Europe. This part concludes with the presentation of a clinical case followed during the traineeship and with this parasitosis as a definitive diagnosis.
