Eufónio e eletrónica: desafios técnico-interpretativos da música mista

Abstract

O eufónio é um instrumento cuja divulgação tem conhecido uma notória expansão, e com um repertório em franco crescimento, fruto do empenho e dedicação de vários intérpretes que são autênticos pioneiros em diferentes estilos; já a música eletroacústica teve um desenvolvimento tão acentuado quanto o das ferramentas que possibilitaram a sua génese. No entanto, estes dois universos raramente coincidem, existindo um imenso leque de possibilidades à espera de serem realizadas. Assim, este estudo pretende apoiar o cruzamento dos repertórios para eufónio com os meios tecnológicos hoje disponíveis, divulgando obras de música mista para este instrumento e possibilitando a criação de novas obras que abarquem várias possibilidades efetivadas pela eletrónica. Este trabalho assenta numa estreita colaboração com compositores com obra e estética diversa, exemplo da variedade existente neste domínio. Os desafios que surgiram no decorrer deste contacto, e que foram superados, traduziram-se numa fonte de aprendizagem para compositores e investigador/intérprete. Devido à natureza particular da música eletroacústica, a música mista levanta também questões sobre o papel do intérprete, que são igualmente abordadas neste trabalho. Pretende-se, com este estudo, consciencializar compositores e intérpretes quanto às particularidades tanto do eufónio como da música eletroacústica, fornecendo ferramentas que auxiliem a fundamentação de diferentes interpretações neste género musical; Euphonium and Electronics: Technical and performative challenges of mixed music Abstract: The euphonium’s growing reputation and ever-increasing repertoire are mainly due to the effort and dedication of many performers that are true pioneers in diverse musical settings; on the other side, electroacoustic music has had an evolution as striking as the tools that allowed its origins. However, these two worlds seldom concur, with an immense array of possibilities waiting to come to fruition. Hence, this research aims to support and expand the overlapping of the euphonium’s repertoire, on one hand, and electroacoustic music, on the other hand, spreading works written for euphonium and electronics and promoting the creation of new works which encompass a wide range of possibilities allowed by electroacoustic music. The present research also enabled a close collaboration with composers of aesthetically diverse backgrounds, example of the diversity that permeates this musical genre. The challenges that emerged during this collaboration, and were surpassed, became a learning opportunity and source of knowledge for both composers and researcher/performer. Due to the particular nature of electroacoustic music, the works of mixed music also raise questions regarding the role of the performer, which were equally addressed in this research. This thesis also intends to raise the awareness of both composers and interpreters about the specifics of the euphonium and of electroacoustic music, providing tools that aid the rationale of different interpretations in this musical genre.
