Teoria na prática-Os restauros de S. Domingos de Lisboa e de S .Francisco de Évora

Abstract

A intervenção arquitetónica, por ser uma atitude criativa, surge interligada com um sentimento de autoria, refletindo um conjunto de valores impressos pelo arquiteto na obra. No entanto, a intervenção arquitetónica compreende também a intervenção no património arquitetónico identitário de uma comunidade. Quando se intervém nos objetos de identificação cultural será a expressão dos valores pessoais do Arquiteto válida? Ou dever-se-ão estes ajustar aos valores do próprio objeto de intervenção? A dissertação proposta explorará, pela investigação e reflexão filosófica, crítica e deontológica a dualidade recorrente entre o valor de novidade e o valor de antiguidade que o Arquiteto reflete na sua obra sobre o património. A ilustração desta dualidade far-se-á pela comparação de dois restauros distintos: o restauro realizado entre 2014 e 2015 no complexo de S. Francisco em Évora, por equipa liderada pelo arquiteto Adalberto Dias, e os trabalhos de restauro realizados na igreja de S. Domingos em Lisboa da autoria de equipa liderada por José Fernando Canas entre 1992 e 1996. Estes dois casos, tão distintos, permitem evidenciar dois polos das metodologias de restauro, um em que transparece um valor de antiguidade, e outro em que o valor predominante é o de novidade. Esta diversidade permite a compreender duas metodologias recorrentes de intervenção arquitetónica, entender o estado do restauro em Portugal e compará-lo com o panorama internacional e com a história da disciplina. O objetivo final desta dissertação é a reflexão crítica sobre os deveres éticos e deontológicos que os arquitetos têm perante as comunidades no seio das quais intervêm, percebendo como teorias largamente exploradas e debatidas são aplicadas na prática. Pretende identificar-se um conjunto de boas práticas a seguir em construções do género; e verificar a necessidade de ter tato, sensibilidade e humildade, valores indispensáveis ao Arquiteto na sua atuação sobre património identitário de determinada comunidade; Abstract: Architectural intervention, being a creative attitude, appears interconnected with a feeling of authorship, reflecting a set of values printed by the architect in the work. However, the architectural intervention also includes intervention in the architectural heritage with which a community identifies itself. When these cultural identification objects are intervened, will the expression of the Architect’s personal values be valid? Or should they adjust to the values of the intervention object itself? The proposed dissertation will explore, through philosophical, critical and deontological investigation and reflection, the recurring duality between the newness value and the ancient value that the Architect reflects in his work on architectural heritage. The illustration of this duality will be made by comparing two different restorations: the restoration carried out between 2014 and 2015 in the S. Francisco complex in Évora, by a team led by the architect Adalberto Dias, and the restoration work carried out in the church of S. Domingos in Lisbon by a team led by José Fernando Canas between 1992 and 1996. These two cases, which are so different, allow us to highlight two poles of restoration methodologies, one in which an antique value appears, and another in which the predominant value is that of novelty. This diversity allows us to understand two recurring methodologies of architectural intervention, to understand the state of restoration in Portugal and to compare it with the international panorama and with the history of the discipline. The final objective of this dissertation is to critically reflect on the ethical and deontological duties that architects have towards the communities within which they intervene, realizing how theories widely explored and debated are applied in practice. It intends to identify a set of good practices to be followed in constructions of the kind; and to verify the need to have tact, sensitivity and humility, values that are essential to the Architect in his work on the identity heritage of a certain community.
