Ser pai: as relações na vivência da parentalidade - um estudo qualitativo

Abstract

Ao longo das últimas décadas, verificou-se um aumento significativo do interesse e, consequentemente, do estudo da paternidade, potenciados sobretudo pela ocorrência de mudanças sociais que contribuíram para que o papel do pai dentro da estrutura familiar se fosse modificando, especialmente no que concerne às características e qualidade da relação estabelecida com os filhos. A experiência de ter e criar filhos é predita e influenciada por múltiplos fatores, dos quais se salienta a componente relacional, a natureza e as especificidades dos diversos relacionamentos que o pai estabelece ao longo da sua existência. O presente estudo tem como objetivo perceber o que é ser pai, quais os significados atribuídos a este evento do ciclo de vida, as suas implicações e como a paternidade é desempenhada, aprofundando a perceção que os pais têm do impacto das relações passadas e atuais na vivência deste fenómeno. Foram realizadas entrevistas narrativas a 8 pais e, posteriormente, procedeu-se à análise temática da informação recolhida. Concluiu-se que, atualmente, os pais estão mais presentes na vida dos filhos, sendo mais afetuosos e envolvendo-se com os mesmos em mais atividades, o que contribui para que estabeleçam com eles uma relação de amizade, com características únicas; e que enquanto a relação com a esposa e a relação com os próprios pais se assumem como os fatores que mais influenciam o desempenho da paternidade, as relações com os amigos são as que mais se alteram em função desta vivência. Estas evidências corroboram a convicção de uma paternidade gradualmente mais consciente e participativa; Abstract: Over the past few decades, there has been a significant increase in interest and, consequently, in the study of paternity, which has been enhanced mainly by the occurrence of social changes that have contributed to changing the role of the father within the family structure, especially with regard to the characteristics and quality of the relationship established with the children. The experience of having and raising children is predicted and influenced by multiple factors, of which the relational component, the nature and the specificities of the various relationships that the father establishes throughout his existence are highlighted. The present study aims to understand what it means to be a father, what are the meanings attributed to this life cycle event, its implications and how paternity is performed, deepening the perception that parents have of the impact of past and current relationships on experience of this phenomenon. Narrative interviews were conducted with 8 fathers and, subsequently, the thematic analysis of the collected information was carried out. It was concluded that, nowadays, parents are more present in their children's lives, being more affectionate and being involved with them in more activities, which contributes to establishing a friendship relationship with them, with unique characteristics; and that while the relationship with the wife and the relationship with the parents themselves are assumed to be the factors that most influence the performance of paternity, the relationships with friends are the ones that change the most due to this experience. This evidence corroborates the belief in a gradually more conscious and participatory paternity.
