A religião não foi um bom preditor da SV; Socio-demographic predictors of subjective well-being in the elderly community
Abstract:
In order to understand the specific characteristics of the elderly population, it is important to obtain the maximum knowledge about them and to develop practices that promote their well-being. The aim of the presente study is to observe the relationship between socio-demographic predictors - age, gender and religion - and life satisfaction (LS) in elderly, through the Life Satisfaction Scale evalution. The sample consisted of 471 community aged individuals (65-98 years old, Mdn = 80), without cognitive impairment or diagnosis of depression. The majority of the elderly are between 65 and 84 years old (61.6%), female (56.1%) and non-practicing Catholics (51.8%). Through the test of a multiple indicators multiple cause model with LISREL 8.80 it was possible to conclude that as the age increases, the life satisfaction decreases and that men have higher LS values. The religion was not a good predictor of LS. |
