Análise do desempenho académico na disciplina de matemática dos alunos da 7ª Classe da Escola Patrice Lumumba, Água Grande - S. Tomé e Principe, no ano lectivo de 2016/2017: contribuições para melhoria

Abstract

O presente trabalho centra-se no desempenho dos alunos da 7ª classe na disciplina de matemática na escola Patrice Lumumba no ano lectivo 2016/2017. O objectivo do estudo é compreender o desempenho académico dos alunos na disciplina de matemática, na transição do ciclo de ensino básico para o ensino secundário. Nesta pesquisa pretende-se utilizar o método quantitativo, com base na aplicação de um questionário feito a um total de 385 alunos, de forma a obter as informações necessárias sobre os factores que possam condicionar o (in) sucesso escolar. Pretende-se ainda comparar os resultados dos três períodos obtidos pelos alunos e do final do ano lectivo anterior (2015/2016) na disciplina de matemática, de forma conhecer o seu desempenho.Também proceder a identificação das causas do (in) sucesso, através de entrevistas a alguns professores, de modo a obter as suas apreciações no que diz respeito ao desempenho dos alunos na disciplina de matemática, nesta transição do ciclo. Concluímos que o agregado familiar não é muito estável; os alunos na sua grande maioria não vivem num núcleo familiar confortável, no entanto podemos verificar um número reduzido de alunos carenciados. A evolução do desempenho em matemática de alunos na transição da 6ª classe para a 7ª classe, apurou-se que, cerca de metade dos alunos manteve os mesmos níveis de desempenho entre o final da 6ª classe e final da 7ª classe (52%). Todavia, somente apenas 10% dos alunos correspondeu a uma evolução positiva, contra 37% que viram os seus níveis de desempenho a evoluir negativamente; Analysis of the academic performance in the math discipline of the students the 7th Class of Patrice Lumumba School, Água Grande - S. ABSTRACT: The present work focuses on the performance of the students of the 7th grade mathematics discipline at Patrice Lumumba School in the academic year 2016/2017. The aim of the study is to understand the students' academic performance in the mathematics discipline, in the transition from the elementary school to the secondary level. In this research we intend to use the quantitative method, based on the application of a questionnaire made to a total of 385 students, in order to obtain the necessary information about the factors that may condition the (in) school success. It is also intended to compare the results obtained by the same students in the previous academic year (2015/2016) in the mathematics discipline, in order to know their performance. Also, identify the causes of (in) success, through interviews with some teachers, in order to obtain their appreciations regarding the students' performance in the math discipline, in this transition of the cycle. We conclude that the household is not very stable, the majority of the students do not live in a comfortable family nucleus, however we can see a reduced number of students in need. The evolution of math performance of students in the transition from 6th grade to 7th grade, it was found that about half of the students maintained the same levels of performance between the end of the 6th grade and the end of the 7th grade (52%). However, only 10% of the students corresponded to a positive evolution, compared with 37% who saw their performance levels evolve negatively.
