Modos de integração dos emigrantes africanos no Algarve: o caso particular de Olhão/Quelfes numa perspectiva da ecologia humana

Abstract

O fenómeno imigração, está cada vez mais presente nas preocupações de muitos Estados e sociedades. A razão deste aumento é principalmente atribuída às desigualdades na distribuição da riqueza entre as sociedades. Da Africa subsaariana vêm milhares de homens e mulheres jovens, ávidos de trabalho. Encontram na Europa, em Portugal concretamente, uma sociedade com uma população envelhecida; capital humano que oferece uma mão-de-obra cara e exigente, permitindo que o mercado de trabalho ofereça sempre tarefas a serem desempenhadas por imigrantes ávidos de trabalho e muitas vezes com qualificações muito baixas ou não equiparadas às portuguesas. A inserção de imigrantes africanos na sociedade portuguesa exige deles um esforço de adaptação e, dos portugueses, um esforço de acolhimento. Este processo envolve diversos Modos de Integração. A dissertação que apresentamos é sobre os Modos de Integração dos imigrantes Africanos em Olhão/Quelfes. Numa Perspetiva da Ecologia Humana, aborda-se aqui o passado histórico destes dois povos, envolvendo o recente fenómeno de globalização. Estudamos alguns casos mais representativos desses fenómenos de integração nas suas variantes e tentamos extrair conclusões que possam, no mínimo, melhor auxiliar a compreensão e tratamento deste fenómeno. /ABSTRACT - The phenomenon of immigration is more and more present as the top agenda of most governments and societies. The reason for this increasing concern is mainly attributed to the unequal distribution of wealth among societies. From subSaharan Africa, come millions of young men and women, eager to work. They find in Europe, more precisely Portugal, an aging population; human capital that offers an expensive and demanding work force, allowing the work market to offer jobs that can always be taken by immigrants eager to work and who most of the time have lower qualifications or that are not recognized by the Portuguese standards. The insertion of African immigrants in the Portuguese society demands an effort of adaptation from them and also from the Portuguese and effort towards embracing them. This process has several integration modes. The study presented here refers to these integration modes of the African immigrants in Olhão\Quelfes. Through a Human Ecology perspective, the historical past of both peoples is discussed, envolving the most recent phenomenon of globalization. Some of the more representative cases of these immigration phenomena and their variables are studied as an attempt is made to extract some conclusions that allow us to better understand or, at least, to better conduct studies and treatment of this phenomenon.
