Abstract: | As ondas de leste Africanas (OLA), cuja variabilidade e intensidade são determinados pelas transformações energéticas, constituem fator fundamental para o regime pluviométrico de Cabo Verde, durante o verão do hemisfério norte. /ABSTRACT - The African easterly waves (AEW), which variability and intensity are determined by the energetic transformations, constitute a fundamental factor for the Capverdean pluviometric regimen, during the summer on the north hemisphere. In this way, the calculation of the kinetic energy of these referred waves, in the West African regions and the adjacent Atlantic, constitutes the main propose of the study. The terms of the kinetic energy budget of the regional flow and the eddies, determined by the energetic equation (Masters and Kung, 1986), characterize the energetic transformation that maintains the AEW throughout its development. The synoptic analyses of the dynamic and thermodynamic fields enabled us to identify the main parameters that take part in the AEW evolution. The interpretation and analyses of the results obtained in the different phases of the wave development from the kinetic energy budget, indicates that in the initial phase, the eddy kinetic energy is due to the baroclinic and barotropic energy conversion in the low and medium troposphere at the same time as in the second phase prevails the baroclinic conversion. In the third of the wave development in the west coast of Africa and over the adjacent Atlantic, the baroclinic conversions grow weak and the other hand the convection enhances. In the kinetic energy budget of the general flow and the eddies, the terms of generation and dissipation of the kinetic energy was identified as the most relevant. From the kinetic energy budget analyzed, the determinant energies sources for the AEW development in the study region proceed from the baroclinic and barotropic conversion observed in the low and medium troposphere and at the jet stream's level. |
