espaço de partilha de vivências; ABSTRACT: The present study aims to evaluate the father’s most significant experiences at the time
of a child hospitalization, analyzing the first and during moments of hospitalization and
in anticipation of discharge. The study involved 10 fathers and 10 mothers of children
from 1 month to 16 years old, among which we applied a semi-structured interview.
Considering the three moments of hospitalization, results – obtained through the use of
a content analysis technique – revealed that difficulties, concerns and needs assume
greater expression during hospitalization. Difficulties concerning familial managing
were highlighted. Concerns regarded the development, health state and illness
prognosis, and the need to be present at the time of hospitalization and caring time
were also referred. As implications for this study we associate its contribution to: future
investigations; exploration and reflection on new forms of intervention of educational
psychology within the hospital context; actively involve the father, increasing its interest
in the child’s care; and the creation of some space for sharing experiences. |
