Plano de terra: salvaguarda e valorização de um património Cabo-verdiano

Abstract

Este estudo visa analisar a importância do pano de terra na sociedade cabo-verdiana e propor medidas para a sua salvaguarda e valorização. “Pano de terra” é a expressão usada para identificar panos de vestir confecionado de forma artesanal em Cabo Verde. A sua produção está diretamente relacionada com a chegada dos primeiros contingentes de escravos, muitos deles tecelões, no início do povoamento do arquipélago. Trata-se pois, das mais antigas práticas artísticas deste arquipélago. Este trabalho visa dar a conhecer todas as técnicas e instrumentos utilizados na confeção do pano de terra, bem como, o papel desempenhado na vida económica, social e cultural dos cabo-verdianos. Permite ainda, conhecer as diferentes formas de utilização do pano em diferentes épocas. Com este trabalho, pretende-se demonstrar, sobretudo, a situação de decadência do uso tradicional do pano de terra e a afirmação de novas formas de sua utilização. Considerando o pano de terra símbolo da identidade cultural cabo-verdiana e tendo em conta o seu valor patrimonial, propõe-se neste trabalho um conjunto de medidas que visam a sua promoção, preservação bem como a sua valorização. Pretende-se ainda, chamar a atenção do possível leitor para a importância de conhecer e valorizar o artesanato local porque quanto maior for o contato com a realidade cultural maior será o sentimento de pertença e responsabilidade na defesa da herança coletiva; ABSTRAT: National manufactured cloth: safeguarding and valorization of a Cape Verdean Heritage This study aims to analyze the importance of the national cloth in Cape Verdean society and to propose measures for their protection and recovery. "National manufactured cloth" is the expression used to identify wear cloths, handmade in Cape Verde. Its production is directly related to the arrival of the first contingents of slaves, many of whom were weavers, at the beginning of the settlement of the archipelago. This is on of the oldest artistic practices of this archipelago. This work aims to make known all the techniques and instruments used in knitting national cloth, as well as the role played in the economic, social and cultural life of Cape Verdeans. It allows, to became familiar with the various forms of use of the cloth at different times. With this work, we intend to demonstrate, above all, the decline of the traditional use of the national cloth and the affirmation of new forms of use. Considering the national as cloth symbol of Cape Verdean cultural identity and reconsidering its heritage value, this work proposes a set of measures aimed at the promotion, preservation and its recovery. Also wants to draw the attention of the possible reader to the importance of knowing and valuing the local handicraft because the greater the contact with the cultural reality the greater sense of belonging and responsibility in defense of collective heritage
