/*** Abstract - Cabrela Site is situated in the Portugal South and encloses schist substrata of the Baixo-Alentejano Superdistrict, the Mariânico-Monchiquense Sector and the arenaceous substrata of the Sadense Superdistrict, of the Ribatagano-Sadense Sector. It is represented by plain zones, relief and rough relief zones. Of the bioclimatic point of view it is represented by the thermotypes lower mesomediterranean and upper termomediterranean and the upper dry, lower subhumid and upper subhumid ombrotypes. The main objective of this study is the knowledge and cartography of enclosed the vegetal communities and habitats in Directiva 92/43/CE, as well as the cartography of the potential vegetation and of zones of potential occurrence of habitats. It is intended to effect an evaluation and cartography of the state of conservation of habitats of the Cabrela Site with sight to the definition of zones of interest for conservation and measures of management. The methodology for the accomplishment and classification and analysis of the relevés was based on the phytosociologic methodology developed by BRAUN-BLANQUET (1932) and later modified by GÉHU & RIVAS-MARTÍNEZ (1980), This classification and analysis were, still, attended for TWINSPAN and CAN000 programs. The cartography was carried through with resource to a system of geographic information, using itself, in the habitats evaluation, 3 diversity index and the criteria of the degree of conservation evaluation considered by the EUROPEAN COMMISSION in 1994. Twenty and eight vegetal communities distributed by sixteen vegetation classes and eleven habitats of the B-1 annex of Directiva 92/43/CE were described. Four climatophylious series of vegetation had been recognized in the territory: Asparago aphylli-Querceto suberis S., Oleo sylvestris-Querceto suberis S., Lonicero implexae-Querceto rotundifoliae S. and Viburno tini-Ol'eeto sylvestris S. and a edaphoxerophylous serie (Pyro bourgaeanae-Querceto rotundifoliae S.). The communities, habitats, zones of potential occurrence of habitats and series of vegetation cartography, together with the evaluation results, allowed the cartographic definition of different protection zones. The evaluation results had consolidated the management measures for different habitats and protection zones.
