Abstract: The present invent describes the use of a basic activated carbon fiber as adsorbent in gas and liquid phase. The activated carbon fiber was produced from activated carbon fibres by treatment with polyamine of the generic type H2N-(CH2-CH2-NH-)xCH2-CH2-NH2, where x is a number between 0 and 10, preferably 3 or 4, accordingly the method described on the Spanish Patent P200501663. The procedure described in this invent produces a new adsorbent with chemical specific characteristics which can be used in adsorption processes in liquid phase in order to adsorb contaminants or to separate specific components of the solution.
