Casa em Pardelhas: o desenho de Fernando Távora na arquitectura popular

Abstract

Pretende-se, com a presente dissertação, perceber a forma de trabalhar de Fernando Távora (1923-2005) quando projectava sobre Arquitectura Popular1, mais precisamente como Távora pensava arquitectura no caso específico da intervenção sobre uma estrutura arquitectónica existente. Para alcançar este objectivo propõe-se analisar o projecto de recuperação e reabilitação de uma casa em Pardelhas (1994-1999), na região do Minho, Portugal, analisando desde as razões da sua implantação, programa, detalhe e mobiliário até à concretização construtiva. Tenciona-se ainda estabelecer uma relação com obras de características semelhantes, da sua autoria, onde se consigam perceber influências, explicitas ou latentes, na Casa em Pardelhas, ou que simplesmente contribuam para uma melhor compreensão do percurso do arquitecto, a fim de averiguar se este projecto protagonizava uma metodologia singular ou estava em continuidade com uma forma de projectar já consolidada. A relevância deste trabalho amplia-se na medida em que procura correlacionar a investigação do arquitecto – História e viagens – com a prática directa na maneira de projectar. Pelo facto de ser uma das últimas intervenções de Távora em Arquitectura Popular e por existir pouca informação publicada, considerou-se pertinente o registo de e uma obra que, além de reconhecida qualidade arquitectónica2, é da autoria de um arquitecto que preconizou uma forma excepcional de projectar em Portugal no século XX, reconhecida e admirada em todo o mundo; ### ABSTRACT: The main goal of this dissertation is to understand how Fernando Távora worked when intervening on Vernacular Architecture3, more precisely to see Távora's architectural thought in the specific case of the intervention on an existing architectural structure. To achieve this aim the analysis of an intervention on the house in Pardelhas (1994-1995), in the region of Minho, Portugal, from Távora's ideological matrices of the site plan, program, details and furniture until its materialization, is proposed. There is also an intent to establish a link between Pardelhas House and other projects of his, with similar characteristics, where it is possible to recognize their influences, explicit or latent, or simply contribute to a better understanding of the path of the architect, in order to ascertain whether this project claims a unique methodology or if it is consistent with a consolidated methodology of work. The relevance of this work is amplified as it tries to correlate the investigation of the architect – History and travel – with a direct architectural practice. This being one of the last projects of Fernando Távora on Vernacular Architecture and because there is so little information on this subject published it is considered relevant to expose this work that, beyond recognized architectonic quality4, is authored by an architect who lead an exceptional way of plan and thinking architecture in Portugal in the XX century, recognized and admired throughout the world.
