Abstract

AS IMPLICAÇÕES DO TRÁFICO DE ARMAS SOBRE A PAZ E A SEGURANÇA NA ÁFRICA CENTRAL – A REGIÃO DOS GRANDES LAGOS NO PERÍODO DE 2006 – 2012 O objectivo da dissertação é examinar os conflitos dos Grandes Lagos, dentro dos conflitos em África, procurando validar as causas e interpretações à volta do comércio ilícito de armamento no conflito armado no período de 2006 a 2012. A presente pesquisa visa tratar de dois grandes objectos: o primeiro, realizar um levantamento, não cronológico, da história contemporânea da região dos Grandes Lagos, no cômputo geral, abarcando os países em conflito, nomeadamente, o Burundi, Ruanda, RDC, particularizando a sua região leste e, Uganda, a volta da luta pelo poder, buscando resgatar as raízes profundas do conflito, que se agrava com a influência do tráfico de armas; o segundo se propõe a examinar o entrelaçamento de actores e factores que, de muitas formas, se prestaram a possibilitar a continuidade do conflito naquela região, fruto do escalonamento da guerra, tendo como pano de fundo o comércio ilícito de armamento e recursos materiais; #### ABSTRACT: THE IMPLICATIONS OF ARMS TRAFFICKING REGARDING PEACE AND SECURITY IN CENTRAL AFRICA - GREAT LAKES REGION ON THE 2006-2012 PERIOD The objective of this dissertation is to examine the conflicts in Great Lakes, within Africa´s conflicts, searching to value the causes and interpretations around the illegal arms trafficking in the armed conflict on the 2006-2012 period. This research aims to present two main objects: first, to do an inventory, not chronological, about the history of the Great Lakes Region, in general, including the countries in conflict, namely, Burundi, Ruanda, RDC, particularly its east region, and Uganda, regarding to power fights, seeking to achieve the main reason for the conflict, which is worsening with the influence of the arms trafficking; second, propose to examine the connections between actors and factors, which make it possible to continue the conflict in that region, in many ways, as a result of the increase of the war, that has the illegal trafficking as support.
