compensação (SOC), afeto depressivo geral (ADG), satisfação com a vida e afetos
positivos e negativos (AP e AN). Tanto no primeiro (N = 107), quanto no segundo (N =
comportamentos SOC, maior ADG, menos AP e mais AN; ### Influence of subjective functional health in successful aging of institutionalized and
community elderly
Abstract:
Two groups of elderly, either living in nursing homes or in the community, were
compared, using a structural equation modeling. Three studies were done, testing the
mediation effect of functional subjective health, namely, the perceived motor ability
(PMA) on the effect of age (third vs. fourth age), institutionalization and gender (second
and third studies) on selection, optimization and compensation (SOC) strategies,
depressive general affect (DGA), life satisfaction and positive and negative affects (PA
and NA). The first (N = 107), second (N = 131) and third (N = 135) studies showed that,
in these samples (Mdn = 80), age was the best predictor of successful aging and that the
PMA influence only occurred in the effect of age on the SOC and the AP. Furthermore
it was found that the elderly who had lower PMA also use less SOC strategies, greater
DGA, less NA and more PA. |
